Modelling innovative practices for mental health inclusion, Bosnia Erzegovina

Target: People with intellectual disabilities in Bosnia-Herzegovina, NGO operators, local authorities
Partner: Caritas Bosnia ed Erzegovina, Sumero Ong, Istituto Baković
Funder: Charity Fund and social and cultural works, Intesa Sanpaolo

The "Supported Community Based Living" initiative fosters the process of deinstitutionalisation of people with intellectual disabilities in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The practice is extensively tested by Caritas and other partners. The approach promotes the independent living of people through the support of the local community, as an alternative to psychiatric hospitalisation. The project currently enhances housekeeping capacities for more than 100 persons in 12 villages. Modelling is concerned with analysing existing initiatives, creating a multiplier tool for spreading the experience, and fostering applicability in other communities.
